I’m a professor of sociology and religious studies at Yale University and Chair of the Sociology Department.

My research is on religion and politics and early modern Europe and North America. I’m particularly interested in the relationship between religion, nationalism and democracy. I’m currently working on the subject of white Christian nationalism in the United States, its history and its politics.
