Associate Professor in Sustainable Market Mechanisms, The Grantham Institute for Climate Change
I am an Associate Professor at the Grantham Institute, the Centre for Environmental Policy, and a member of the Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering. I lead a research group/activity on Market Interventions for Deep Decarbonisation (MIDD-Lab). At MIDD‑Lab, we develop data‑driven computational models to show how market mechanisms finance the reduction and removal of carbon dioxide emissions in heavy sectors globally. The scope of our work covers mechanisms such as emissions trading schemes, carbon border adjustment mechanisms, contracts for difference and carbon contracts for difference, subsidies, and carbon taxes, applied to carbon‑intensive, hard‑to‑abate sectors, My research interest lies at the interface of engineering, economics and policy. I develop decision support frameworks to determine what combination of technologies or strategies can enable any industrial plant or an industrial sector get to net-zero carbon. I also use these results to inform policymaking on this issue.
