Helena Kennedy

Barrister, Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, University of Oxford., Bar of England and Wales
I’m a barrister, a member of the House of Lords and the head of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute. I am a founding Member of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights in the University of Oxford. My passion is law, but not as an instrument of oppression, which it can be, but as an instrument of liberation, freedom and rights. Everyone yearns for freedom and liberty, and law is a way of protecting those yearnings, by imbuing the rule of law with a belief in human rights.
