I’m Emeritus Professor of Comparative European History at Queen Mary University of London.

My field of research is history. I’m a historian, but I’ve avoided concentrating on any one particular theme. I have written about socialism, capitalism, the Mona Lisa and the cultural industry – but basically about 19th and 20th century European history.
