I'm a Professor of Literature at Princeton University and a writer.
I’ve written many books on different subjects, but my specialty is 20th century literature and especially rather eccentric or marginal movements. I wrote a book called Mexican Modernity about the Mexican avant-garde in the ’20s and ’30s. I’ve also written a book about Freud and his relationship to Mexico and one about Proust and his relationship to Latin Americans living in Paris around the turn of the last century. I’ve also written two novels about Cuba.
